Binder 32: Chesterfield-Bordentown Road |
Scope & Content |
The Knowles Binder Collection documents the history of Crosswicks village and environs from the 17th century to c. 2005 by street and the structures, dwellings, and buildings on those streets. Each of the 35 binders typically records one street or road or one side thereof, with overlap at intersections. They include copies of historic and contemporary photographs, the latter largely taken by Mr. Knowles; articles, obituaries, real estate notices clipped from local and regional newspapers; articles on pre-electric village practices applicable to Crosswicks; historical notes or articles by Mr. Knowles and others on the structures and their inhabitants; maps; deeds and other legal documents; newsletters, pamphlets, programs, and booklets; invoices and receipts; schematics or blueprints; postcards and notecards; advertising flyers and commercial memorabilia; correspondence; and Internet printouts. Album 32 contains materials largely related to the Samuel Taylor House including numerous documentary photos before it was demolished and reconstructed in 1985-93; and a lengthy article on Taylor family and their development of Taylor Pork Roll. |
